WaterKeepers News Release - January 12, 2006
First Nations HealthCo (www.firstnationshealthco.com) recognizes that water quality and health among First Nations peoples are inexorably linked. The majority of our water is drawn from rivers and lakes and our traditional foods are also nourished from these same sources of water, which means that what affects one affects all.
To our people, water is the lifeblood of Mother Earth. That which harms our Mother, harms our people and creates health issues that inevitably require intervention and would possibly otherwise not occur. From mercury and other heavy metals contamination, to elevated phosphorus levels, to sewage contamination, First Nations peoples are far too often forced to live with the effects of polluted waterways.
First Nations HealthCo commits to doing what we can to protect water quality and reducing negative water-borne health conditions. To that end, we are extremely pleased to participate as supporters in the Waterkeeper Alliance Fundraising Gala at the Fairmont Chateau in Lake Louise on January 15, 2006.
Waterkeeper Alliance (www.waterkeeper.ca) is a grassroots organization with local Waterkeeper programs nationally and internationally. They are dedicated to preserving and protecting YOUR WATER from pollution.
First Nations HealthCo Ltd. is the country’s original full-service First Nation Health Care provider.
